It seems we might have received some additional "com munications" from yet another phantom writer. These letters were criticizing Columbus town councilman Thomas Bolling, referring to him as "the good doctor." It is so easy for people to sit in comfortable positions of obscurity and slash away at those who live under a spot- light. Elected officials head the list of targets. Elected officials' (even former elected officials) ideas and actions are fair game for debate. But if any debaters want to use a public forum, like the col umns of this newspaper, we require that they have the simple decency to sign their name. Miss Columbus Gets Farewell Ceremony The Town of Columbus has invited the public to Town Hall Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. to meet the new Miss Columbus, Jill Gantt, and to wish her good luck on her trip to Columbus, Ohio for the national Miss Columbus festi vities. Attention: Columbus Post Office Patrons Effective immediately, the traffic pattern at the Columbus Post Office has been changed. The entrance and exit have been reversed. Please follow the signs. The collection boxes are to be moved as soon as possible, with additional signs and arrows. Luther Osment Spiritual Life Enrichment Services Spiritual Life Enrichment Services will be held Sunday through Tuesday, Oct. 13-15 at 7:30 p.m. by the Tryon First Baptist Church. The Rev. Luther Osment, Western Area Director of Fam ily Services, Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina, is the guest preacher. His subjects are: Sunday morning, "To Change Your World"; and each conse cutive evening, Sunday through Tuesday, "The Master's Minor ity," "The Man In My Little Girl's Life'" and "Three Invita tions." A native of Chattanooga, Mr. Osment graduated from Waco High School,. Waco, Tx., Car son-Newman College. (Continued On Back Page) 20C Pet I op' Five Polk County Youths Charged In Several Cases Polk County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Cal vin Atkins reported a number of arrests and charges Monday related to several cases. The cases involved the destruction of five mailboxes on Silver Creek Road and Holbert's Cove Road on Sept. 28 and the theft of jelled dynamite and 12 boxes of electrical blasting caps from the Miller Engineering storage building on the Hwy. 74 construction site. A third case involved the armed robbery and assault at a men's clothing store in West- gate Mall in Spartanburg. Atkins said that on Oct. 2 at 8:30 a.m., "Coy Cantrell III, 17, one juvenile, 16, and a 15-year-old juvenile went to the residence of Mickey Lan- ford in Green Creek and entered the Lanford residence removing two 357-calibre revolvers After leaving the Lanford residence with the revolvers, dynamite and blasting caps, the three traveled to Westgate Mall in Spartanburg, S.C. where they attempted to rob a store clerk inside the mall. "The store clerk received a four-inch laceration to the head after being struck with a small pry bar. Security guards apprehended Cantrell and one juvenile in the mall parking lot.
